Life, Leadership, and Money Matters

Better Fire Safety In The Office

As a leader, you need to make sure you are always doing your very best to keep your people as safe as possible in the case of fire. You also need to protect your assets such as the stock you have in the building and the premises themselves, of course – although it should go without saying that the people are the most important thing of all. If you are keen to improve fire safety in the office, then there are many ways that you can achieve this, so let’s take a look at some of the most effective of these right now.

Installing More Equipment

There are obviously many kinds of equipment that you might want to have in your office if you are keen to make the place as fire-safe as possible. Some are legal requirements, so you will probably already have the necessary fire extinguishers, fire blankets and so on. If you don’t have these, you should make sure you are compliant with that immediately. Beyond that, look for other solutions too such as large atrium smoke curtains. Having more of this kind of equipment in-built into the office is going to help improve fire safety greatly.

Carrying Out An Assessment

You need to carry out a fire risk assessment from time to time. Ideally you should do this at least once a month, but if you want to be extra safe then there is no harm in doing it even more often than that. The whole point of this is that you are highlighting potential issues which might cause a problem in terms of fire safety. You then know what needs to be dealt with, and where there is no solution for a particular hazard you can at least make everyone aware of it. This is a legal requirement and also a good practice for you to do.

Selecting A Fire Warden

You will probably already know that you need to have a few fire wardens in your office. Indeed, this is not something that you are able to overlook if you want to have the best possible fire safety in your office, so you should make sure that you are going to think about this as best as you can. Bear in mind that you need to have one for any time that there are people in the office, so you need to work with the schedule on this.

Training

The better that everyone in your office is trained about fire safety, the more likely it is that they will be able to take care of themselves and each other in a fire and avoid damage to themselves. You will also find it is less likely that there is a fire in the first place, so this is definitely worth doing. Make sure you are holding monthly fire training refresher sessions at least, and that you fully train each new member of the team when they come on board. This is going to make all the difference in the world.
