Life, Leadership, and Money Matters

Congratulations to the new US president. Let’s fight against racism

My friends and I are against racism
Latinos and blacks against racism

I must admit. Even though I am Canadian, I was very stressed with the US elections.

I couldn’t help but get emotionally invested in all the drama. Throughout the years, I learned my disgust with president Trump grew more and more.

One of my emotional trigger points was racism.

I have been a victim of racism in the province of Quebec, where I live. I wasn’t able to get a job because I spoke with a Spanish accent and since then I have been sensitive towards racism.

Donald Trump’s example of racism:

  • Called Mexicans rapist
  • Insulted Chinese
  • Called African American thugs
  • Put a ban on immigration from Muslim countries
  • Said that Africans are coming from shithole countries
  • Made fun of Native Americans
  • Said that the US would welcome white people from Norway
  • Called white supremacist “Very fine people.”
Racism is contagious

People become racist when they see that racism is practiced in from of them and that it’s normal. When a president is a racist, that sets an example for millions of people.

The economic cost of racism in a society

When a society denies the opportunity to a person based on race, the whole society loses.

Imagine a person who happens to be the best candidate for a position belong to some ethnic minority. If that person doesn’t get the job, based on racial discrimination, the person loses, the employer loses, and society as a whole loses. If you multiply those isolated instances by the millions of people who are victims of every day, you have a huge loss in society.

The President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris
Biden and Harris against racism

Joe Biden served as Vice President under Barack Obama, the first black president of the US.

Ms. Harris, the daughter of an Indian mother and Jamaican father, has risen higher in the country’s leadership than any woman ever before her.

The US will be less racist in the coming years

President Trump encouraged racism in the US. Let’s hope that this new administration can help the nation heal and reduce or eliminate racism.
