Having your business grow too quickly sounds like a nice problem to have, but if you’ve suddenly expanded and weren’t expecting it so soon, it can come with all kinds of issues. If you’re not getting your orders out in time or the customer service or product quality isn’t up to scratch as you grow too quickly, you can end up damaging your reputation, and your downfall could be as quick as your rise. You might have gone viral or just got lucky, or maybe you were smart and capitalised on a super underserved niche in the market. Either way, when your business grows, here’s what you can do to expand fast.
Use AI and automation
AI is everywhere right now, and you can’t ignore it if you want to speed things up. Bringing in a few smart tools can change everything for a small team trying to do the work of a massive corporation. Let a software tool write your social media posts or sort your customer service tickets so your actual human workers can focus on closing deals. You can use programs to figure out which of your leads are actually ready to buy so your sales team doesn’t waste hours talking to people who are just kicking the tyres?! It feels like cheating, but it is just smart business. That way you’ll save time and your team gets to do the more interesting tasks instead of boring admin work.
Partner with other businesses
Find a business that sells something totally different (you don’t want them to be your competition in any way) but talks to the exact same crowd as you. If, for example, you sell surfboards, then you could probably partner with a brand selling sunscreen or hair and skincare designed for people who spend time at the beach. If you run a joint promotion, you could blast each other’s products out to your email lists, or run an event or campaign together. It’s basically free advertising to a group of people who are already primed to spend money in your niche. You get to borrow their credibility, and they get to borrow yours. You can reach thousands of new buyers overnight without spending a penny on ads.
Expand your workspace
You can’t pack fifty people into a room built for ten and expect them to get orders out on time because they’re just going to end up tripping over each other. When you scale up fast, you need actual physical space for inventory, packing stations and desks. Leasing a brand new warehouse takes months of paperwork and legal fees that you don’t have time for right now. Think about buying used modular buildings instead. They can show up on your lot almost overnight, and they cost a fraction of the price of a permanent build. It gives your team the exact room they need to breathe and package up your products without you having to sign a ten-year lease on a building you’ve got a good chance of outgrowing by next summer anyway.
