How to Improve Productivity When Working from Home

Working from home can be distracting, even if you have an office set up. Social media, outside noise, and fatigue are all things that affect productivity when you work from home. Here are some tips to help you stay productive.

Repaint Your Office

The color of your office can affect your mood and how productive you are. This is because different colors can trigger different emotions. If you find that you’re struggling to focus in your home office, consider hiring painting services for a paint job to see if a different color helps.

When repainting, keep in mind that not just any color will affect productivity. Here are colors that have been proven to positively affect productivity: 

Red

If you have a demanding job or if you’re working on a project that requires a lot of critical thinking, a red office can help. Red is known to increase heart rate, which can give you the boost you need to power through a challenging task.

Yellow

Yellow is associated with happiness and sunshine, so it’s no surprise that it can help boost your mood and productivity. If you’re struggling with seasonal affective disorder (SAD) in a way that is affecting your work, yellow might be a good color to try in your home office.

Green

Green is known for its calming effect, making it a good choice if you find yourself feeling anxious or stressed while working from home. If you have trouble focusing, green might help you feel more relaxed and able to get work done.

Blue

Blue is often associated with calm and serenity, making it a good choice for a home office. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or stressed while working from home, blue might be the color for you.

Invest in a Good Chair

Your chair is important! You don’t want to be sitting in an uncomfortable chair all day as this can make you less productive. 

Here’s what to look out for in a good chair:

  • Lumbar support. Back support is important for your spine and overall posture. A good chair will have lumbar support that helps you maintain a good Sitting position.
  • Adjustability. You should be able to adjust the height, depth, and angle of your chair so that it’s comfortable for you to sit in. 
  • Comfort. Your chair should be comfortable to sit in for long periods. Look for a chair with cushioned seat and backrest and adjustable armrests.

As more parents are working from home, their children are also being schooled at home. Technology and education are developing quite fast and study-from-home is also a thing. If your your child is studying from home, make sure they too have the proper equipment, from school chairs and desks, to the proper educational software.

Take Breaks 

A major culprit for a lack of focus and productivity is working for too long without a break. When you sit in front of a screen for hours on end, your brain becomes overloaded and you start to lose focus. 

The best way to avoid this is to take regular breaks throughout the day. Stand up and walk around for a few minutes, or go outside for some fresh air. Even just a few minutes away from your work will help you to come back feeling refreshed and able to focus better. 

You can choose to set a timer for 25 minutes and work until it goes off. Take a 5-minute break after each timer goes off. After 4 sessions, take a longer break of 15-20 minutes.

Being productive when working from home takes focus and discipline. By taking breaks, repainting your office, and finding the right chair, you can increase your productivity and get more done.
