Free money for all Quebecers; $400 to $600

Free money from the Quebec Government $400 to $600

When François Legault was campaigning during the last election he promised every Quebecer a bribe of $500 if he got elected.

Well, François Legault is keeping his promise. He got elected and now he’s handing out cheques to Quebecers ahead of the holidays. The checks will be between $600 to $400 (explanation below).

To be honest. I didn’t vote for him. As an immigrant I see François Legault as a racist politician who goes out of the way to eliminate all immigration that doesn’t come from a Francophone country. François Legault has made it clear that he prefers white-Francophone immigrants.

Regardless of no voting for him, and no planning to vote for him in the future, I will gladly take the money. That money belongs to all the Quebecois tax payers. That money was taken out of my right pocket to be given back so that I can put it into my left pocket.

Here is a comment from Twitter which represent the feeling of millions of taxpayers.

As of December, the government will give out either $400 or $600 to individuals who qualify. This money will be non-taxable (double thank you).

  •  $600 cheques will go to people who earned less than $50,000 in 2021
  •  $400 cheques will go to those who earned between $50,000 and $100,000 in 2021

The payment is portrayed as a one-time, cost-of-living adjustment, adding that Quebecers do not have to apply for or it or request it. The payment will even go to people who owe the government money (that would be me, I owe money to Revenue Quebec).

Those who are signed up for direct deposit will receive the money in their bank accounts, and those who are not will receive a cheque.

The adjustment will cost the government about $3.5 billion.

Beware of scams

Revenue Quebec will not be communicating with anybody via text message or e-mail about sending out the money. Anyone who receives a message directed them to follow a link to receive your payment should take note – that’s a scam.

Here is the Minister of Finance, Mr. Eric Girard, warning us against scammers.

How to spend the money

Mr. Eric Girard suggests that we can spend the money in lodging, transportation, clothing, etc. It is up to everyone of us to decide how to spend that money. You can waste it by drinking at the bar, or you can pay down some debt.

In my case, I am using that money to pay lower my debt with Revenue Quebec.

In your case, if you have any debt with interest rate higher than 6%, I suggest you pay down that debt as well.

If you have no debt, then you can either invest it in the stock market or invite your partner to a nice dinner.

Please let me know in the comments or via email how you will spend that money.
