Life, Leadership, and Money Matters

My First $100K in a 12 month period

All my life I wanted to earn $100K in one year. This year it finally happened.

I didn’t do anything extraordinary to make this money. I am a long term holder of ETFs and Index Funds, but the gain we have seen in the stock market have been extraordinary. In addition, when markets tumbled, I was too afraid to buy more, but as the market started to recuperate, and I realized that it was not the end of the world (as at one moment I imagined), I took a risk, I borrowed money from my bank and I bought more stocks.

Here is a graph of the S&P 500 ETF. This ETF represents the US stock market. As you can see, the one-year return is 59%.

This is extraordinary, and obviously, we can’t expect it to be the same on the following year, but that explain how I was able to have a $100,000 year.

I expect that the following years will be in the -10% to +20% range, but for now, I’m going to celebrate my good fortune.

As I accumulate more capital, it will get easier to make another $100K. My dream is to get to the point where I can make $100K per year, from my investments.
