Now It's Fall, What Jobs Should You Do Around The Home

Now It’s Fall, What Jobs Should You Do Around The Home?

The fall season is one of the most beautiful times of the year. It’s the season in which you can embrace the natural world and all of the wonderful colors it has to offer.

You can decorate your home with fallen leaves, seasonal wreaths, and get cozy underneath the blankets as the colder nights draw in. All in all, it’s the season that lets you settle down in time for the holidays!

But now that fall is here, your home is going to need a bit of TLC. And to save you wasting time running around with a duster, we’ve prepped a little list of the most important jobs to get done right now. Check it out.

Leaf Clearance

The autumnal season takes leaves off the trees and strips flowers of their petals, and all of this organic debris has to blow off and get caught somewhere! Your home and your garden are prime areas for this, so you’ll want to keep an eye on leaf build up.

We all imagine raking leaves into big piles in the fall, but most of the time it’s your external drains and guttering that get clogged up. This is a bit more disgusting to deal with, so make sure you’ve got a pair of protective gloves and the proper tools for it

Check for Signs of Pests

Fall is a time when little critters like to find somewhere warm and dry to nest and mate, and your home is a prime candidate! So be on the lookout for signs of pests, from the all too common house spider to something a little more nefarious like bedbugs or rats.

A few cobwebs here and there aren’t too shocking, but when something is living in your sheets and/or your walls, you’ll want to get a pest exterminator on the phone. The sooner a potential infestation is dealt with, the easier it is to keep your home clean and allergen free.

Look Around for Air Gaps

It’s getting colder and colder, and your home will need to brace against the wind and plummeting outdoor temperatures. And while you can turn the central heating on all you like, it can’t do that if there are any leaky air gaps around the structure.

Look out for these by listening for whistling sounds near doors and windows, as well as physically checking by putting your hand near them when they’re shut and locked.

Do you feel any blasts of air coming in? If so, it’s time for a resealing job! Windows in particular are liable for an issue like this, but thankfully a 10 minute job with a frame sealant gun will do the trick just fine.

Fall is a wonderful season, but it’s also quite a hard one! Make sure your home is ready for the rapidly changing weather by running through the checklist above. Seal your gaps, check for pests, and get rid of the leaves before they cause a real problem.
