061 Dr. Danielle R. Moss, Supporting the #Metoo movement

Danielle R. Moss is a TED Speaker, an educator, and a writer.

In this episode, we speak about the cost of education, The Me Too movements, financial hardship suffered by victims of sexual harassment and Black history month.

We spoke about the high cost of education and how to circumvent some of those expenses. One way is to do the first two years of education at a low-cost community college and then, finish the education at a better-known university.

What is the #Me Too movement

The #MeToo movement is a movement against sexual harassment and sexual assault, started by social activist and community organizer Tarana Burke. Tarana began using “Me Too” in social media as early as 2006 when she started sharing her experience as a victim of sexual assault. Tarana’s website: https://metoomvmt.org/.

The movement went viral by the actress Alyssa Milan in 2017. Milano encouraged victims of sexual harassment to tweet about it and “give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem” of sexual harassment and sexual assault.

  • Some people think the Me too movement is a scam to extort money from men.
  • Women suffer great financial in the workplace. Sexual harassment makes their lives even more difficult.
  • Women need to do more research when negotiating a salary.

Black History Month

It was started in 1926 by historian  Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History announced the second week of February to be “Negro History Week.”
