075 How to Quit Like a Millionaire, Kristy Shen

This is my second interview with Kristy Shen, Bryce Leun, from the website Millennial Revolution. The first time was Episode #19 when they accepted an interview with me in spite of me being a brand new podcaster. We are celebrating the release of her new book Quit Like a Millionaire.

Kristy realized she didn’t want to follow the typical path of working until age 65 when she saw one of her colleagues collapsing our of work-stress. Also, she was told that as a grown-up, she was supposed to buy a house, because that’s what adult people do. But she was priced out of the market and she realized that all the sacrifices she would have to make, didn’t make financial sense. Instead, she decided to put all her savings in index funds.

After doing some adjustments in her life, getting into a career that had a high return for her investment, living frugally, and investing her savings, she was able to retire at age 31, she was able to Quit Like a Millionaire.

Now, Kristy and Bryce, spend their lives traveling the world and they have discovered that they spend less money while traveling than living their former high-cost city of Toronto. The amazing thing is that while traveling and discovering the world, the portfolio has continued growing and now they have more money than when they started their never-ending vacation.

Kristy Shen retired with a million dollars at the age of thirty-one, and she did it without hitting a home run on the stock market, starting the next Snapchat in her garage, or investing in hot real estate.

Learn how to cut down on spending without decreasing your quality of life, build a million-dollar portfolio, fortify your investments to survive bear markets and black-swan events, and use the 4 percent rule and the Yield Shield–so you can quit the rat race forever.

Not everyone can become an entrepreneur or a real estate baron; the rest of us need Shen’s mathematically proven approach to retire decades before sixty-five.
